Phenylketonuria(PKU) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder characterized by a deficiency in the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH). This enzyme is necessary to metabolize the amino acid phenylalanine to the amino acid tyrosine. When PAH is deficient, phenylalanine accumulates and is converted into phenylketones, which are detected in the urine. Left untreated, this condition can cause problems with brain development, leading to progressive mental retardation and seizures. Wikipedia
Re:NEED ADVICE Insurance Help on Formula - 2007/07/02 17:29I am not sure how many adults in TN even get insurance coverage on the formula. Some one was telling me that their insurance covered the formula as a DME (durable medical equipment or something like that?) I'm not sure if that's the same thing that you're talking about though. It looks like our insurance battle will actually be with Bryon's HR dept at his job instead of the insurance company. At least that is what I understand since ERISA is our problem.
